Diploma in Cinematography

COURSE OVERVIEW

The one-year Diploma in Cinematography and Visual Storytelling at Kantipur Film Academy (KFA) is designed for aspiring cinematographers who want to master the art of visual storytelling. This program offers a blend of practical training and theoretical knowledge, allowing students to develop expertise in both technical and creative aspects of cinematography. You’ll learn essential skills such as camera systems, lighting techniques, composition, color management, and camera movement. The course also covers working with directors and film crews, giving students hands-on experience in real-world filmmaking environments. With opportunities to showcase your work in thesis films and projects, KFA’s own Kantipur Theatre and Kantipur Cinemas provide the ideal platform to launch your career. Graduates can pursue careers as Cinematographers, Camera Operators, Lighting Technicians, and in other cinematography-related roles in film, TV shows, documentaries, and commercials.

Classes run 2 hours a day, Sunday to Friday, with extra time required for project work, rehearsals, and shooting alongside students from other disciplines. You’ll work on various film projects, managing them through the pre-production, production, and post-production phases, gaining valuable experience with high-end equipment. The program is structured to build your skills from basic to advanced levels, and no prior experience is required—freshers are welcome. The program is taught in both English and Nepali. Upon completing the course, students will have worked on several cinematography projects, including a thesis film, which will be showcased at Kantipur Theatre and Kantipur Cinemas, with special screenings for family, friends, and industry professionals to celebrate their work and receive valuable feedback.
