Diploma In Film Directing

Course Overview

The Diploma in Film Making at KFA is a one-year, hands-on program designed for passionate storytellers who dream of making films. This course takes you through every step of the filmmaking process—from writing scripts to bringing stories to life on screen. You’ll learn the art of cinematography, directing, editing, sound design, and production management, gaining both creative and technical skills. With guidance from industry experts, you’ll work on real projects and complete a thesis film as your final showcase. Whether you want to direct, write, produce, or edit, this program helps you build a strong foundation to kickstart your career in films, TV shows, web series, documentaries, commercials, and music videos.

Classes run 3 hours a day, Sunday to Friday, with extra time required for projects and collaborations with peers from Film Acting, Cinematography, and VFX/Editing. Students will complete projects where they will have the opportunity to direct both film and drama, working hands-on with high-end equipment. This immersive, practical program is designed to get students into the director’s chair quickly, offering real-world filmmaking and drama directing experience. Whether you’re passionate about storytelling or filmmaking, no prior experience is needed—just creativity and dedication. The program is taught in both English and Nepali, ensuring it’s accessible to everyone. Students’ work will be showcased at Kantipur Theatre and Kantipur Cinemas, giving them a platform to display their projects to family, friends, and industry professionals.

Course Starts: November 17, 2025

Class Time: 7 AM – 10 AM

Class Days: Sunday to Friday (6 days a week)

Course Period: 12 Months

Admission procedure

  • Students must fill out the admission form.
  • 1 passport-sized photograph.
  • 1 photocopy of citizenship, passport, or license (student + parent/guardian).
  • 1 photocopy of academic certificates.
  • Students must bring their parents/guardians at the time of admission.

Eligibility

  • No higher academic degree/qualifications required, but applicants must be passionate, dedicated film enthusiasts.
  • Basic speaking and writing skills in Nepali and English, along with basic computer knowledge, are required.

Fee structure 

The total fee for the One-Year Diploma in Film Directing is NRS 1,50,000, payable in three installments:

  • NRS 70,000 at the time of admission
  • NRS 40,000 in the fourth month after classes begin
  • NRS 40,000 in the eighth month after classes begin

Note: There are no hidden charges, and the academy covers the shooting costs. However, students are responsible for their thesis expenses, and no discounts are available.
