Kantipur Film Academy Associate with ''On the left bank " Novosibirsk Drama Theater Russia .
Actress Rekha Thapa has officially made her debut in theatre with the play ‘Meera’, which opened as the inaugural performance at the newly launched Kantipur Theatre, operated by Kantipur Film Academy.
The play, based on Deepak Sinjali’s novel Meera, tells the compelling story of a woman’s rebellion against rigid family and societal norms. The theatrical adaptation and direction were handled by Sundar Dhital, and the production was led by Ramesh Puri.
Kantipur Film Academy had laid the foundation stone for its own dedicated theatre space at Naxal, Gairidhara, just last month, with veteran actor Rajesh Hamal inaugurating the project.
‘Meera’ was selected as the theatre’s first staged play and officially premiered on May 29. Since its opening, the play has been performed regularly to a full house, drawing praise for its powerful performances and thematic depth.
The cast includes Rekha Thapa in the lead, supported by Bishal Pahari, Binda Khatiwada, Bishal Devkota, Geet Bista, Doresh Khatiwada, Unnat Upreti, and Sunil Khadka.
Kantipur Theatre aims to be a vibrant platform for theatrical arts, offering a space for regular performances, training, and the promotion of Nepali stage culture.
